My S10 4.3 RWD manual :)
Driving it home I didn’t stall once! Though I did spin the tires more times than I’d like to admit. I’ve gotten okay at starting from a stop in general but hill I need a little work. Oh well it’s my first day.
Tomorrow, barring rain, I’m gonna clean it up real good and throw a thick coat of wax on there. I’m so excited!!!
Oh yeah, and my dad got it for $4200. $1000 off asking price.

NICE buy man! Good luck with it, and have fun with learning manual. I was kinda thrown sink or swim into learning. Just take your time and don't overthink it and you'll be driving smooth as hell in no time flat!

Congrats! That’s so awesome.
What options does it have? The 4.3 with a manual is kind of rare for the later years. Most manuals by then were 2.2s.

Hill Start: Hold brake while letting off the clutch, and right before it starts to stall, let off the brakes and hit the brakes.

Nice! Congrats! Great name too.

Options... Uh, air conditioning if that was an option? It has manual windows, locks, and mirrors. 4 speaker stereo and yeah that's pretty much it.

I've driven a stick a couple times but I'm pretty much being thrown in. Thankful I live by a church with a fairy large lot I can practice in.

What year? CPI or TBI 4.3?
![]() 06/03/2016 at 21:12 |

Never thought of doing it that way. I always knew the hand brake method but that won't really work here, I've for four pedals!

DROP IT
or don’t

Yes I believe A/C was an option. I know it was on the older years. That’d explain why it has a 5-speed. It was probably special ordered with A/C as its only option.
You can put keyless entry into an S10 with manual locks fairly easily. My friend has a ‘97 2.2 5-speed S10 with manual everything and he put keyless entry in it in one afternoon.

2002 so whatever year that had!

Yeah I got locked outta my house in the dead of a particularly cold NJ winter with no coat and just my car keys. My mom was a town away on a date with my stepdad, and I had to go get the keys from her.

It takes a little getting used to, but it works best for me! Well, when I’m not driving the FiST, because hill hold.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeees. 4x4-4.3L-manual S10 is the best S10. This one looks crazy nice. Good job.
Tires will spin frequently in these if you don’t have anything in the bed and you are in 2WD. Be careful, it can become addictive.

4WD would be awesome but this is RWD. Doesn't really bother me though I drove an M3 through a snowstorm.

Damn I need to learn to read. Still awesome tho. I had a 4.3L RWD Auto ZQ8 for a few years. I loved that truck. Lots of tire spinning (and sometimes entire truck spinning when wet.)
My wife did not love it. Sold it with 71k for $3500. I probably could have gotten $5k if I didn’t have an ultimatum to get rid of it.

Aside from drive wheels and number of cylinders, that is as different from your M3 as you could have gotten. Truck looks mint though, nice buy.

Those were all sequential central port injection with HP anywhere from 175-200.

Believe me - 12 years into a relationship, I hear you. She will win the battles, she will win the war. Otherwise you’ll be miserable.

I had one of those with a 4.3 and a manual. Burnouts for days. Capable little truck. Diesels if you are too high geared at low speed. Don’t be afraid to downshift at the bottom end. With that giant long ass shifter...
Funny story time. I had a 96 extended cab (before third doors) with bucket seats. I used to drive truck. I would get into the s10 and it felt like a sports car. It felt like I was sitting in a corvette and the shifter felt like it was 3 inches long and coming from the dash. Every time I got home I felt like I had a Ferrari to drive. It was odd.

Crap I just realized that I’ve been with my wife for almost 11 years including dating, coming up on married for 8. As long as she keeps letting my buy manual transmission cars for my DD - I’m on my 3rd since we’ve been together - I think can deal with losing the other battles.

That is a great little truck, nice price too!

You mean let off the brakes and hit the gas? I can’t imagine it being wonderful for the clutch, but that’s my preferred method

Is it just the pics or is it really that clean? Looks nice, how many miles?
Edit: looked at older post. 68K, not bad!

Congrats! Looks like a clean truck.

No dammit I meant brakes because moving at all is going to fast, we should all just fucking walk!
Yeah, I meant gas.
![]() 06/04/2016 at 08:59 |

I think you figured it out, but as Smallbear pointed out, I meant gas, not brakes at the end.

SLAM IT TO THE GROUND AND PUT IN A DUMP BED

I’ve never driven a manual s10. Just picked up a 4.0/ax15 XJ a couple weeks back, and it’s very much like driving a tractor. How does the S10 compare in your mind?

I used to have one of that generation S10. 2.2L RWD manual.
I found the cab to be a bit uncomfortable, but I have very long legs for my height.
